Description:
Tarkarli is a village in Malvan Taluka, district Sindhudurg. It is Tourist Destination in Coastal Maharashtra, an attractive beach.
Situated 6 kms south of Malvan and 546 kms away from Mumbai on the coast of Maharashtra is Tarkarli. The mojar attraction here is the long and narrow stretch of beach, with its pristine water. On a clear day, you can see the sea bed through a depth of 20 ft.
From there, one can see the famous naval fort Sindhudurg built by Shivaji Maharaj, one of Maharashtra's more popular and importance sea forts, built in the 17 th century and the famous Padmagarh fort.
It presents a panoramic view with tall 'Shuru' trees in the background. The wide river, the beautiful sailboats and the tiny wonderful islands hamlets situated on the riverbank, add to the picturesque beauty of Tarkarli. Sighting dolphins is not a rare event here. This place fishes throughout the year, the sea during summer and winter and back-waters during the monsoon since the sea water enters this area and also due to safety reasons.
How To Reach:
Tarkarli is situated 8 KM south of Malvan and 546 KM from Mumbai on the west coast of India, at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea.

Kolhapur-Tarkarli, 160 kms.
Malvan-Tarkarli 7kms.
State Transport buses ply from Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune to Malvan and from Malvan to Tarkarli. Rickshaws are also available form Malvan.
By Rail: Following options exist:
* Sindhudurg, but all trains don't stop there and also connectivity by means of bus and rickshaw are not very good.
* Kudal on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.
* Kankavli on the Konkan Railway. This is around 1 hour 30 minutes by road from Malvan. Buses are available from and to Malvan after every 30 minutes. Frequency is slow in the evening.
Airport Nearby:
Nearest airport is Dabolim (Goa).
Sights To Watch:
The name Sindhudurg in Marathi means a Fort build on Ocean or Ocean Fort. Constructed within a span of 3 years from 1664-1667 by King Shivaji by deploying 100 Portuguese architects, specially invited from Goa and over 3000 strong workforce the fort stands tall on the "Kurte" island.
It is believed that 4000 mounds of iron was casted for creating the base and lay the foundation stone for the fort. Hiroji Indulkar, a noted architect of that era supervised the construction. The fort is spread over 50 acres of land and boasts of a 9.2 mtr high and 3 mtr rampart. The rampart is 4 Km long and is studded with 42 bastions. The Fort houses the temples of Hanuman, Jarimari and Goddess 'Bhavani’.
